[Sarasota, Fl], 2/7/2018 – The Sarasota YMCA launched its annual campaign on Monday, February 05, 2018 to ensure that everyone in Sarasota has access to vital community programs and resources that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Every day, the Sarasota YMCA works to support the people that need it most by addressing community issues, such as school readiness through our Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program, chronic disease prevention through Pedaling for Parkinson’s, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA and Diabetes Prevention programs and foster care/adoption services such as counseling, training foster parents and providing case management.
“Throughout Sarasota, countless people know the Y, but there’s so much more to our Y than one might think, said Laura Gilbert, President and CEO, Sarasota YMCA. “The Y is more than a gym. It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.”
This year, the Sarasota YMCA hopes to raise $300,000. Funds raised will support scholarships for programs and services including: summer camp, afterschool care, memberships for all (foster families and anyone that needs a safe place), swim lessons and more.
Last year, charitable gifts from YMCA donors made it possible for 2,891 kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school and in day camps; for 3,467 children and adults to learn how to swim and have confidence in the water; and over 600 people access to our facilities where families, adults and individuals are able reach their full potential.
