SARASOTA, January 22, 2018 –Plymouth Harbor on Sarasota Bay, a not-for-profit Life Plan Community, announces the addition of seven new staff members. Stephanie Leathers joins Plymouth Harbor as Administrator of Assisted Living and Memory Care. Stephanie is charged with assisting in the opening of Plymouth Harbor’s new Assisted Living and Memory Care residences in our new Northwest Garden Building (which opened January 2018), as well as planning, organizing, developing, and coordinating overall operations. She will be instrumental in the development and implementation of the premier programming in the new residences. Prior to joining Plymouth Harbor, Stephanie served as Administrator at Mount View Assisted Living in Lockport, New York, where she was responsible for the daily operations of the 150-bed facility with an internal certified Home Health Care Agency. In her time at Mount View Assisted Living, she was responsible for the establishment and opening of a 118-bed sister facility in a nearby county. A Registered Nurse, Stephanie attended Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, New York, where she received her Associate in Applied Science degree with a major in nursing. Marty Martel joins Plymouth Harbor as Director of Maintenance. Marty is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of Plymouth Harbor’s infrastructure, including the repair of all building functions, grounds, equipment and appliances; implementing an ongoing facility preventive maintenance program; supporting the remodeling/upgrade program; and supporting capital projects. Prior to joining Plymouth Harbor, Marty served as Director of Engineering for Brookdale Senior Living in Sarasota. He was responsible for overseeing maintenance of the entire community; managing its team of technicians; maintaining building-maintenance budgets; and establishing maintenance contracts, policies, safety programs, and training. Before Brookdale, Marty spent nearly 14 years at Post Properties, a developer and operator of multi-family communities. April Gillespie joins Plymouth Harbor as Director of Nursing for Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Home Care. April is responsible for overseeing the professional nursing care and delivery of services for the Assisted Living and Memory Care departments in the Northwest Garden Building as well as Plymouth Harbor’s Home Care department. In addition to establishing policies and procedures, April is tasked with managing all personnel who provide direct patient care and ensuring that professional standards of community nursing practice are maintained. Prior to joining Plymouth Harbor, April worked at the Sarasota Health & Rehabilitation Center, most recently serving as Assistant Director of Nursing. She also worked as Assistant Director of Nursing at Harmony Healthcare & Rehab Center and as Staff Development Coordinator for Magnolia Health & Rehabilitation. A Registered Nurse, April has more than 25 years of experience in clinical settings. She graduated from Sarasota Vocational Institute’s Practical Nursing Program, earned her Associate of Science degree in Nursing from Manatee Community College (now State College of Florida), and attended Hodges University in Fort Myers, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Brian Bly joins Plymouth Harbor as Construction Superintendent. Brian is responsible for organizing and directing the work of field personnel and trade contractors to meet Plymouth Harbor’s construction objectives, including cost, quality, schedule, equipment conservation, and safety for all assigned projects. Prior to joining Plymouth Harbor, Brian served as construction superintendent for Questar Construction, Inc. He was responsible for overseeing the organization’s subcontractors, ensuring their work was performed correctly and ahead of schedule, in addition to daily work reports and working in partnership with project managers to identify and address any issues that arose, including delays, cost, time requirements, and the like. Additionally, Brian previously worked with Kellogg and Kimsey, a commercial building and construction company, serving on projects including Hampton Inn Tampa, Aloft Sarasota/One Palm residences, Mallard Law Firm, and more. Elizabeth Goldsmith joins Plymouth Harbor as the Health & Fitness Specialist in the Wellness Center. Elizabeth is charged with assisting in maintaining the overall resident wellness program, in addition to teaching a variety of fitness classes, performing senior fitness assessments, and providing equipment orientations to both residents and employees. Elizabeth also maintains monthly scheduling and events, and assists with the planning and implementation of employee-facing wellness programs and support. Prior to joining Plymouth Harbor, Elizabeth served as a Fitness Instructor for Sarasota’s Frank G. Berlin YMCA, where she was responsible for working with members on the fitness floor, providing assistance, equipment orientations, and introductory workouts as needed. Before Sarasota’s YMCA, she worked as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Floor Associate at the Dennis Schoenbeck North YMCA in Wichita, Kansas. Here, she assisted members in achieving health and fitness goals utilizing exercise physiology and prescription. Elizabeth studied Exercise Science at Wichita State University. Alena Scandura joins Plymouth Harbor as one of two Housekeeping Supervisors. Alena is responsible for assisting the Director of Housekeeping Services and her fellow Housekeeping Supervisor in ensuring Plymouth Harbor is maintained in a neat, clean, and orderly manner. She has responsibility for designated areas throughout the campus, and maintains supervisory responsibility for Housekeeping employees assigned to those areas. Prior to joining Plymouth Harbor, Alena served as Coordinator of Student Affairs for the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus, where she was responsible for staff development, budget oversight, event planning, and marketing. She also worked at Bradenton’s IMG Academy for seven years, most recently serving as Operations Manager, overseeing more than 60 staff members and multiple operations. Alena’s additional operations experience includes seven years at New College of Florida. She holds a Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology/Biology from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She also studied Human Resources Management and Higher Education Administration at the University of South Florida. Sande Esparza also joins Plymouth Harbor as Housekeeping Supervisor. Sande is responsible for assisting the Director of Housekeeping Services and her fellow Housekeeping Supervisor in ensuring Plymouth Harbor is maintained in a neat, clean, and orderly manner. She has responsibility for designated areas throughout the campus, and maintains supervisory responsibility for Housekeeping employees assigned to those areas. Sande joined Plymouth Harbor in 2007. She began working as a server in our Dining Services Department and was quickly promoted to dining shift leader within our Smith Care Center Skilled Nursing Facility. Throughout her more than 10 years with Plymouth Harbor, Sande has received several accolades, such as Employee of the Month, and she also received the Doyle Scholarship, awarded through The Mildred and Bernard Doyle Charitable Trust to Plymouth Harbor employees, to help further her education. Sande earned her Associate in Arts degree from the State College of Florida, and she is currently working toward her bachelor’s degree in business administration.
