At the Annual Meeting and Luncheon of the Sarasota Garden Club, on April 16, 2018, the members presented three Natural Science Scholarships, two high school and one college. The high school scholarships are for $2000 and the college scholarship is for $4000. Both high school winners were in attendance with one proud parent. They are as follows: Gabriel Gutierrez, a student at Cardinal Mooney, will attend Stetson University next fall. He will be on an Environmental Fellowship in the field of Environmental Science combined with Marine Technology. He was highly recommended. “Elle” Elizabeth Cohen is a student at Riverview High School. She will be attending Florida Atlantic University next fall. She is planning on majoring in Marine Biology and Mechanical Engineering. She has been an excellent student and highly praised. The college scholarship winner is Brooklyn Wilhelm. She was the Garden Club’s High School winner in 2006 and has now won the college Natural Science Scholarship. She attends the University of Florida and was unable to be with the garden club for their meeting. Brooklyn has moved forward in the Natural Science field of study. She is majoring in Economics and Sustainability Studies, and how it will affect the natural science world. All the applicants were highly qualified and it was difficult for the Scholarship Committee to choose a winner. The Sarasota Garden Club is pleased with their choices. Scholarship Committee consisted of Judy Schneider (Scholarship Chairman), Andy Papineau, Kathryn Johnson, Nancy Lewis and Lynn Biega.
