SARASOTA, FL – Key Chorale’s Masterworks Series opens on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sarasota Opera House with Misatango, a collaboration with The Sarasota Ballet’s Studio Company. Misatango, Martín Palmeri’s tango mass from Argentina, combines the passion of tango with the beauty of the Latin mass text. The instrumental music of Astor Piazzolla and Ariel Ramirez’s evocative Misa Criolla capture the vibrant, lively sounds of Argentina with guitars, bandonéon, strings, voices, and percussion. Dancers from The Sarasota Ballet’s Studio Company and Trainees, choreographed by guest artist Elizabeth Bergmann, bring the melodies and rhythms of the streets of Buenos Aires to life, creating an unforgettable feast for the senses. “I have the extraordinary privilege of working with 23 outstanding dancers from The Sarasota Ballet's Studio Company and Trainees, remarked Elizabeth Bergmann. “That coupled with the amazing, danceable music has inspired me to make eye catching, scintillating choreography.” Key Chorale is excited to have secured world-renowned musician and bandonéon player Ben Bogart, who is a Berklee College of Music graduate and Bandonéon player who specializes in Argentine Tango music. Throughout his musical career, Ben has performed as a soloist with orchestras, string quartets, tango groups, as well as his quartet Cuarteto Tanguero. In addition, he has performed with tango icons such as Leopoldo Federico, Latin Grammy award-winner Nestor Marconi, and Grammy award-winner Pablo Aslan, and along with iconic orchestras such as the Cincinnati Opera and the Dallas Chamber Symphony. Also featured will be Venezuelan guitarist, Alvaro Bermudez, Latin percussion specialist Brian Potts and singers Brad Diamond, Samus Haddad, Amy Jo Connours and Madison Spahn. “It is not often choirs get to sing tango music,” said Artistic Director Joseph Caulkins. “The combination of these gifted dancers set to music full of passion and incomparable beauty is truly stunning and unlike any program I have ever conducted.” For more information about Key Chorale, or to purchase tickets to Misatango or any of their Season 34 concerts, visit www.keychorale.org or call 941-921-4845.
