Team members collect more than 600 pounds of food for the holiday
David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of more than 183,935 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 18 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided 311,469 meals to local families.
In Sarasota, 600 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 1 to 15.
“It is such a special feeling to be able to witness so much local support for those in need during the holidays,” said Amy Westberry, division coordinator for David Weekley Homes in Sarasota.
Locally, the Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Family Network on Disabilities of Manasota, a nonprofit organization that assists families of children with disabilities and special needs. David Weekley team members provided the collected items to Family Network on Disabilities of Manasota to distribute to families in time for the holiday.
“We put together 50 bags and were able to help 27 families with this drive,” said Mary Smith, executive director for Family Network on Disabilities of Manasota. “We even have extra items to put toward Christmas baskets, as well!”
The Thanksgiving Drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
