Sarasota Based Addiction and Mental Health Directory Wins Philadelphia Award On January 24, 2019 Recovery Guidance was awarded Social Venture of the Year at the Greater Philadelphia Social Innovations Awards. The Sarasota-based Internet company was the only out- of-State organization considered for a Social Innovations Award, which traditionally celebrates Greater Philadelphia Leaders in their fields. Six thousand voters that included Wharton School of Business alumni and Pennsylvania social innovators placed Recovery Guidance, in the winning circle with the 3rd place award. Recovery Guidance Managing Partners David Denicoff and Leslie Glass were there to receive the award. The awards were sponsored Social Innovations Journal, Institute, and Lab which recognizes “organic leadership re-envisioning the challenges communities face and finding solutions by innovating ideas to reshape communities through innovated programs, policies, disrupting the political landscape to revolutionize realities (that can change our world)…” In the addiction and mental healthcare field Recovery Guidance provides innovation and out-of-the-box solutions that fit Journal’s criteria. Recovery Guidance addresses not only the opioid epidemic, but also the greater addiction crisis which is the #1 health issue in the US. Recovery Guidance is a website with software that can be used on other websites. It was created by Leslie Glass, 2016 American Society of Addiction Medicine Media Award winner. Glass had previously founded the popular nonprofit behavioral health website, Reach Out Recovery, which topped 5 million visitors in 2017/18. Recovery Guidance is a directory and resource platform that was developed to serve everyone who searches the Internet for addiction and mental health treatment. “We knew addiction and mental healthcare consumers needed a resource that can be used many times over a lifetime, not just by people in crisis looking for a rehab,” Glass explained. “Substance and Alcohol Use Disorders are chronic, progressive, relapsing brain diseases that require ongoing treatment and management to achieve remission, just like cancer and heart disease. And families affected by the disease need treatment to cope with the disease and heal as well.” Glass adds that recovery for her own family required more than 30 treatment providers in five states to achieve long term recovery. The trauma of finding the providers needed for lasting success inspired her to create Recovery Guidance to make the search for all modalities easy and to offer direct access to providers. Recovery Guidance is a free national resource for users and a subscription site for providers who post their profiles and services which are automatically displayed to all the consumers in their zip codes nationwide. Comprehensive listings of providers and resources, easy navigation with automatic results, and consumer experience of care reviews create informed mental health consumers for the first time. The 2019 Social Innovations Awards symbolize the success of the social sector embracing both tried-and-true traditional practices while stepping out of the box to grow these ideas into new innovative practices that are sustainable and have a significant impact on a social problem regionally, nationally, and globally.
