WZSP 105.3FM, WTMY 99.1FM, WTMY and 1280AM air Spanish Regional Mexican music, news, sports, entertainment and cover local events. Combined, they attract over 305,000 Hispanic listeners, as measured by Geoscape, now Claritas, a national market research group. Over 50% of this local audience is of Mexican origin or descent, followed by Puerto Rican and Cuban. Latinos are the largest growing segment of the national population, according to the US Census. The US Census has projected that Hispanics will continue to outgrow all other segments of the US population from 2010 through 2050. US growth is expected at +42% during these 4 decades: White non Hispanic is projected to grow at +1%, African-Americans at +56%, Asians at +142% and Latinx at +167%. The Florida Department of Education reported that the 2020-2021 kindergarten class in the 9 counties Solmart Media reaches included the following percentages of Latinx children: Hardee County 64%, DeSoto 48%, Lee 44%, Polk 37%, Highlands 35%, Manatee 35%, Sarasota 21%, Pinellas 18%, Charlotte 16%. Solmart Media was established in 2014 by renowned Spanish media executives Tomás Martínez and Mercedes Soler. Martínez is member of the National Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors’ Committee for Medium and Small Size Markets. He has managed dozens of radio stations across the US for more than 30 years. Soler is a radio and television news broadcaster, winner of 5 Emmy, a GLAAD and Peabody awards. She serves on the Board of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and The Ringling Museum.
