Advanced Asphalt

Advanced Asphalt will take your money and never look back. I had Advanced Asphalt re-Asphalt my driveway shortly after my husband was killed in an auto accident. They told me they would come give me a quote when my husband was there so they could talk to him. When I informed them that I was a recent widow, their eyes kind of twinkled. I paid them $6,000 to repave my driveway... and paid them in full on the day they did the work. Their bid said that they were going to place 1 inches of asphalt down on the driveway and even it out so no puddles would form. After the very first rain, you could see several large puddles of water. I called them about the issue and they came out a few weeks later when they had some left over asphalt from another job earlier that day and added it to the low spots. They didn't have enough "left over" asphalt and said they would return another day and add to the other low spots... they never came back.
Within 6 months, the Asphalt began chipping up, creating large holes in my driveway, some of which were 5 feet across. The previous asphalt was exposed after all their asphalt chipped away i called several times about this, with no return phone calls. I pretty much gave up on it and chalked it up to a bad choice of contractors. A few months later, a male friend of mine that is in the building trade saw it and told me it was horrible work that Advanced Asphalt had done. He looked at the contract and saw "1 inch to be added" and showed me where there was actually less than 1/8 inch of asphalt added... On my behalf he called Advanced Asphalt 26 times (we documents every attempt to contact them) and requested for the owner to return his call. One of the workers did eventually come out and took pictures and agreed that something needed to be done, but he would need to speak to the owner. Nothing ever became of that... We continued to call, email and leave messages for approximately 2 years, with no return calls, or repairs done. At one point the receptionist called and offered to "reseal" the driveway for me, then had the gall to charge me , $750 for it.. my friend advised me NOT to pay it until the repairs had been done.
I contacted an attorney. After reviewing all the photos and documented attempts to reach the owner, they said that I had a very good case against Advanced Asphalt for breach of contract and sup-par workmanship. At the time I was right in the middle of a "wrongful death" trial against the company that was responsible for my husband's death and couldn't face the thought of more depositions and discovery... instead of taking them to court and paying legal fees, I simply took the $ and hired someone else to fix the shoddy work. I would recommend that anyone considering to hire Advanced Asphalt... DON'T DO IT.... they are a rip off.... and will not stand behind their work. I feel that they took total advantage of a recent widow. I have pictures of all of the above mentioned holes in my driveway.
