The Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is expecting a sharp increase in passenger traffic this Memorial Day weekend over last year. For the 4-day weekend starting Friday and ending Monday, SRQ has 186 scheduled flights this year vs. 138 last year and 24,470 scheduled seats vs. 16,376 last year. This reflects a 34.8% increase in flights and a 49.4% increase in scheduled seats for the holiday weekend.
The increase in traffic is largely due to the addition of 2 new air carriers, Allegiant and Frontier, and 15 new destinations that will be operating this year that were not operating last year over the same time period. The increase in passengers expected this weekend is also being fueled by lower air fares being offered by these new carriers now operating at SRQ.
“We are asking the public to arrive at the airport early to ensure a smooth transition from the curbside to the gate. Passengers should also check with their airline before arriving to ensure there are no flight delays due to weather or other operational impacts”, said Rick Piccolo, SRQ President, Chief Executive Officer.
