The Creation is a masterpiece of biblical proportions setting the six most famous days in all of history to music though cinematic imagery, soaring choruses and history making orchestral writing. From the big bang to the dawn of light, the emergence of plants, great beasts, humankind, and even the lowly earthworm, Haydn paints an unforgettable musical picture book using texts from Genesis and Milton’s Paradise Lost. This work was Joseph Haydn’s most ambitious project, which he undertook late in his life, after a long career composing more than 100 symphonies, dozens of string quartets, numerous operas, masses, concertos and sonatas. The Creation is Haydn’s masterpiece. “Haydn was at his zenith as a composer taking on one of the most dramatic stories ever,” remarked Artistic Director Joseph Caulkins. “He poured all of his skill into this work: tuneful melodies, musical inventiveness, orchestral writing full of wit and color, choruses full of majesty and grandeur, and vocal solos that truly soar.” Soprano Mary Wilson will be joined by baritone Kyle Ferrill and tenor Brad Diamond who will be portraying the roles of the archangels Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel as well as Adam and Eve. Soprano Mary Wilson has been hailed as one of today's most exciting artists, receiving critical acclaim for a voice that is “lyrical and triumphant, a dazzling array of legato melodies and ornate coloratura.” (San Francisco Chronicle). “This will be Mary’s fourth performance with Key Chorale,” said Maestro Caulkins. “She is an audience favorite with an amazingly agile technique that never ceases to dazzle us. When you hear Mary, you will think Haydn composed this very piece just for her.” These performances will feature the 120-voice Key Chorale along with members of the Sarasota Orchestra in what will be an unforgettable experience. The performances take place: Saturday and Sunday, February 15 & 16, 4:00 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church. 104 S. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. Tickets are $20-$55 and available at KeyChorale.org or call the office at 941-921-4845.
