The exhibition, which is installed in The Ringling’s Community Gallery, showcases the works of SCMA members. The SCMA was established in 1924 and is a professional membership organization comprised of nearly 500 physicians, including allopathic, osteopathic and podiatric practitioners. In the face of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, doctors have found their stress loads increased. Outside activities, including art making, have been found to be beneficial to medical professionals in enhancing their well-being. The Art of Medicine features works by a number of SCMS members who have found personal joy and balance in their lives through art. The Ringling’s Community Gallery is a free public exhibition space dedicated to displaying works of art produced by local community-based, nonprofit or student groups. Exhibitions rotate on a regular basis and allow artists of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to share their work with The Ringling’s visitors. The Community Gallery, which is generously funded by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, is an important component of The Ringling’s commitment to being a museum that is accessible to and inclusive of all.
