(SARASOTA, FL – November 13, 2020) –Jewish Family & Children’s Service of the Suncoast (JFCS) recently added three new members to its Board of Directors: Michael D. Goldman, an attorney; Mark Gordon, managing editor of the Business Observer; and Ken Waters, vice president of Resident Services, Sarasota Housing Authority.
“As JFCS continues to evolve and grow to meet the increasing needs in our community, a strong board of directors is a key to success,” says JFCS Board of Directors Chair Dean Miller. “We are thrilled to have Michael Goldman, Mark Gordon and Ken Waters—with their tremendous and diverse skills and backgrounds—join the JFCS board as we continue our critical role of lending a helping hand to those in need.”
Michael D. Goldman, a retired Potter Anderson partner, practiced corporate law in Delaware. “What attracted me to the JFCS Board is the fact that JFCS serves a very large segment of our community,” says Goldman. “Those in need of assistance are treated equally regardless of race, religion or politics. In these troubled times it is good to know that we are all in this together.”
Mark Gordon has served the community not only as an award-winning journalist and managing editor of one of its most important business publications but also as a volunteer focused on children and families. “Having lived in this community for 15 years, I’ve seen JFCS grow into the crucial organization it is today, serving multiple needs and helping people in a wide range of demographics,” says Gordon.” I’m honored to be elected to the board to take part as JFCS navigates the current environment.”
Ken Waters’ 18-year tenure at Sarasota Housing Authority has been instrumental in developing paths to economic self-sufficiency for families, a goal shared with JFCS. The Housing Authority’s Resident Services Department provides affordable housing and training, employment and educational opportunities. The Housing Authority promotes independence for the entire family using a two-generation approach.
“I'm honored to be given the opportunity to serve on the JFCS Board,” says Waters. “Over the years, I have worked with many of the staff members of JFCS to better serve our clients and the community at large. Now that I am a board member, I'm excited to be given the ability to serve our community at a higher level.”
