Sarasota, FL; November 10, 2020// - Since 1992, Mike Gowan and Mike Quillen have held a presence at The Landings. Their flagship restaurant, Gecko’s Grill & Pub relocated to Stickney Point in 2017 and in early 2021 the Gecko’s Hospitality Group founders will return with the opening of their contemporary venture, Tripletail Seafood & Spirits.
Gowan and Quillen have christened the elegantly relaxed venue with a fresh new identity. Tripletail’s innovative dining room and bar design as well as a new state-of-the-art kitchen was created and implemented by Gowan, who carries decades of operations experience. His ideas were combined with the collaborative insights from Wil Stutzman, GM of GHG’s celebrated sibling, Dry Dock Waterfront Grill on Longboat Key.
Tripletail Seafood & Spirits menu will offer fresh, locally sourced fare from the seas, bays, ocean and shore, with patented Dry Dock favorites and Gulf of Mexico-centric catches. Tripletail’s spirits-forward cocktail lounge within the restaurant will serve the classics as well as entice the adventurous libations lover with craft and signature cocktails program, prepared with a mixologist’s finesse under the direction of cocktail connoisseur and COO of Gecko’s Hospitality Group, Fiona Farrell. A significant wine list of 35 domestic and imported offerings imply Tripletail’s sense that seafood presents a palate which lends itself to the full spectrum of the guests’ dining enjoyment.
The footprint of the venue will be charmingly unrecognizable in its enhancements. The space will provide socially distanced dining enjoyment for approximately 150 guests. Outside, lush greenery privacy walls and a ten foot waterfall feature will create a private retreat on the patio. Inside, nautical ambiance will prevail throughout, with modern lighting accents, crisp plantation shutters which complete a natural lighting transition from lunch to dinner, shiplap paneling, spacious tables and deep red leather booths with glass dividers to ensure the guest that enhanced safety protocols are a priority, as they are at all GHG properties.
Locals who understand the nature of the eponymous fish may look forward to Tripletail Seafood & Spirits to shine with offerings of excellence on the table via the talents of Chef Trae Peavey. The 50 new hospitality jobs created when Tripletail opens will be led under the captaining of GM, Meagan Smith, a veteran Dry Dock manager. It’s where it all began for Mike & Mike; with their new venture, Tripletail proposes a culinary trifecta, where seafood, spirits and exceptional hospitality offer our community another invitation to enjoy the pleasure of the Gecko’s Hospitality Group’s award-winning dining experience.
Gecko’s Hospitality Group is locally owned and operated and employs over 600 Floridians. Since 1992, Gecko’s Grill & Pub’s has created steady economic stimulus, generating thousands of first-time jobs and launching the careers of hospitality professionals. GHG has been consistently awarded “Best Of” in numerous categories and partners to serve countless schools and philanthropies. Gowan and Quillen’s Longboat Key gem, Dry Dock Waterfront Grill joined GHG in 2015 and in 2016, GHG welcomed Dockside Waterfront Grill in Venice to the GHG family. These nine restaurants along with the legendary tavern, Red Barn Bar, fortify the GHG’s mission to provide exceptional hospitality, fresh locally sourced fare with a gourmet twist and a menu that is accessible to everyone.
