Sarasota Military Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and Desoto Counties/Newtown Connection to be Outreach Members for the Newtown Connection program. Sarasota Military Academy Cadets will not only instill the shared values that underpin an SMA education with the children in the program, but also add energy, enthusiasm, and effort to bring their best to building relationships through mentoring and personal example. SMA-LTC Abby Williams, assistant head of school at SMA High School, expressed how much this opportunity would benefit the larger community, the Academy, and more importantly, the lives of those children involved. “The teachable life lessons and life skills imparted throughout this program will undoubtedly help change lives,” said Williams. SMA will also provide educational programs and event support as needed and approved by BGCSDC. According to Roscelyn Guenther, BGCSDC director of program services, “Bringing together Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, Newtown Connection Program and SMA, connects members of the Club to additional role models and the support necessary to ensure academic success.” About Sarasota Military Academy Sarasota Military Academy is a nonprofit public charter school serving grades 6 through 12 located in Sarasota, Florida.
