The Ringling Welcomes Female Mariachi – Flor de Toloache to Perform Dec. 10 Contact Name: Virginia Harshman Contact Email: virginia.harhsman@ringling.org Contact Phone Number: 9413595700 Sarasota, Florida- The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is pleased to welcome Flor de Toloache to the stage of the Historic Asolo Theater Dec 10 at 7:30 pm. Flor de Toloache is NYC's first and only All Female Mariachi Group, winners of the Latin GRAMMY, nominated for the GRAMMY and hailed as alt-mariachi by Rollingstone. Forged in the Five Boroughs and bringing their own brand of musical mezcal to the world, FDT has taken their talents to some of the biggest stages like Coachella, Vive Latino, Latin GRAMMYs, Austin City Limits, and smallest stages like NPR’s Tiny Desk series. They have collaborated with artists such as Las Migas, John Legend, Alex Cuba, Miguel, Dan Auerbach and The Arcs, Eugenia Leon, Pedrito Martiez, Josh Baca from Los Texmaniacs and Multi-GRAMMY winning producer Rafa Sardina. Boosted by their Latin GRAMMY double-nominated album "Indestructible", the band pushed their way through to their punk/rock inspirations and released the latest FDT single, "Florecita Rockera", a tribute to Rock en Espanol and to the power of women all over the world. But FDT's real power is their live performance: soaring vocal acrobatics performed with surgeon precision and powerful emotion, dance over prodigee instrumental prowess weaving together authentic Mexican traditionals and modern classics in dazzling original arrangements of blazing violin, burning trumpet, syncopated guitarron and driving vihuela. “Flor de Toloache stands at the crossroads of fusion and mariachi girl magic. Whether intimately airy or ice-crackingly powerful, their intricate vocal runs and harmonic alchemy seem to defy logic with equally clever instrumental arrangements by the singers themselves.” – NPR The group began as a trio named for the delirium-inducing Mexican flower used as a love potion for generations. As it has grown in notoriety, the band has expanded to as many as ten members depending on the setting, forming a truly global ensemble with musicians hailing from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Italy, and the United States. FDT has been recognized as an official selection of WOMEX 2019, were special guests at the Grammy Museum's inaugural Latin Music Gallery Exhibition ribbon-cutting ceremony and performed at the 42nd Annual KENNEDY CENTER HONORS to paying homage to Linda Ronstadt.
