H. JACK HUNKELE FOUNDATIONS GIVE HOPE FOR STUDENTS Contact Name: Diana Dill Contact Email: diana@takestocksarasota.org Contact Phone Number: 941-504-0995 Economically disadvantaged students throughout Sarasota County Schools will have more hope of participating in the Take Stock in Children college scholarship and mentor program thanks to H. Jack Hunkele Charitable and Family Foundations generous combined gift of $90,000 for student scholarships. Northern Trust Vice President, Estate Administration, Karen Hough commented, “Mr. Hunkele was always concerned about the students that needed extra support to be successful after high school. The matching scholarship funding that Take Stock in Children receives doubles the number of students we can help.” Take Stock in Children of Sarasota has seen an increase in the number of student applications to participate in the powerful and proven program designed to break the cycle of poverty through education. Once selected for the program, students and their parent or guardian sign a performance contract to remain drug-free, crime-free, maintain good grades and behavior, attend college success coaching and college readiness workshops, and meet with their mentor on a regular basis. Take Stock in Children signs the contract promising a college scholarship upon completion of the program and high school graduation. The executive director, Lisa Bechtold stated, “We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Hunkele Foundations. We are limited only by the number of scholarship dollars we raise, and this gift will make a significant difference to the children in Sarasota County.” Ms. Bechtold added, “Mr. Hunkele was a dear friend of Take Stock for years and would attend our events so he could meet the students he was helping. We are honored that his legacy lives on through the children we serve.” Interested students in 8th and 9th grade attending Sarasota County Schools may complete an online application by visiting our website takestocksarasota.org.
