Featured Speaker: Mayor Liz Alpert

Liz Alpert, a seasoned family law attorney based in Sarasota, Florida, has been a dedicated legal professional since gaining admission to the Florida Bar in September 2006. Her journey began at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida, where she successfully earned her degree in December 2005.

Growing up as the eldest of eight siblings in a household where neither parent pursued a college education, Liz faced challenges but remained steadfast in her determination to attain a college degree. Despite raising three daughters, she persevered over 17 years of intermittent classes and achieved her goal, graduating with honors (summa cum laude) from the University of South Florida in 1995.

Fueling her ambition, Liz harbored another dream – to become an attorney. Through meticulous planning and hard work, she realized this dream, adding a legal dimension to her achievements.

In her role as a family law attorney, Liz actively contributed to the legal community by serving on the Florida Bar Support Issues Committee and chairing a committee dedicated to formulating an alimony guideline formula.

Beyond her legal pursuits, Liz found time to give back to her local community. In 2003, she was appointed to the City of Sarasota’s Human Relations Board, a position she held until 2007. Subsequently, she served on the City’s General Personnel/Civil Service Board until her election to the Sarasota City Commission on May 12, 2015.

Her commitment to public service continued to shine as she took on various leadership roles. Liz served as mayor from 2018 to 2019 and vice Mayor from 2022 to 2023, and she currently holds the position of mayor, further exemplifying her ongoing dedication to the betterment of Sarasota, Florida.
