Commissioner Kyle Scott Battie is a lifelong resident of Sarasota's District 1 and a proud alumnus of Sarasota High School. He hails from a family deeply rooted in the community, with his mother, Mrs. A. Jean Battie, dedicating 30 years to the Sarasota County School System, and his father, Henry "Hank" Battie, being one of the pioneering African American entrepreneurs in downtown Sarasota, having established a business at the historic Quay.

Growing up around his father’s business and later gaining experience in the hospitality industry, Commissioner Battie developed a deep understanding of the challenges facing local business owners and working families in Sarasota. After returning to Sarasota in 2012, he has continued to contribute to the community by hosting a local television show on ABC 7, while also dedicating himself to making a meaningful impact in District 1.
