 Legislative Advocacy Outreach: Understanding the People and Processes Behind State Government •November 16 

•1-hour class 

•Offered in-person or virtually

 •Pre-requisite for "Dear Legislator" class 

Class description: State College of Florida’s Government Relations department is offering FREE Legislative Advocacy Outreach training for new SCF faculty, staff, students, local Chambers and the community who have not taken our Legislative Advocacy class in the past. This online or in-person one-hour seminar will provide an overview of the legislative process, tools for effective advocacy, and strategies for creating positive change. This class is a prerequisite for our new letter-writing class. Local District aides will be on hand to answer your questions if schedules allow. All attendees will receive a certificate upon completion.

“Dear Legislator”: Turning Your Cause into a Compelling Message

•Pre-requisite for "Dear Legislator" class 

Class Description: Learn how to effectively advocate for issues that matter to you through clear, respectful communication with state legislators. This practical class teaches constituents and community or special interest groups how to write professional advocacy letters that explain an issue, share its impact, and make a clear request for legislative support or action. As a prerequisite, you must have taken our Legislative Advocacy class in the past. This class is the next step in your advocacy journey.

Balance the Budget: One Slice at a Time - Understanding State Budgets and the Role of Legislators •November 2, 16 & December 14 

•2-hour class •Offered in-person only 

•Free pizza and drinks provided 

Class Description: State College of Florida’s Government Relations department presents a FREE, engaging and interactive seminar designed to provide a deeper understanding of the complexities of setting a state’s budget. Attendees will explore the key components of budgeting, including revenue sources, spending priorities, and financial planning. Through hands-on exercises and real-world examples, participants will gain insight into the decision-making process and the delicate balance legislators must strike to ensure fiscal responsibility, public needs, and economic growth. This seminar will shed light on the critical role of legislators in shaping the budget, from advocating for programs to making tough choices. Whether you're new to the world of state finance or looking to expand your knowledge, this session will help you gain a better understanding of how state budgets are crafted, the impact of legislative actions, and how you can play a part in the process.
