Job Summary


The Student Life Advisor oversees and coordinates extracurricular and co-curricular events and activities, campus recreation, and student development initiatives. This position serves as the co-advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board and collaborates with the Coordinator, Student Life to direct all clubs and organizations across all campuses. Helps guide and engage students in thoughtful educational planning and goal-setting. Assists students in making informed decisions regarding their academic, professional, and personal goals through collaborative and supportive partnerships with faculty and staff from across the College as well as other institutional and community resources.

Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:


• Supervises all campus clubs and organizations and assists with the development and administration of related budgets.

• Assists with the development and implementation of all policies and procedures related to Student Life.

• Supervises and advises the Student Government Association Executive Board. Develops and manages organization budget. Accompanies the SGA students on any off-campus trips.

• Provides leadership, coordination, and advocacy in the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of programs and interventions that assist students in the pursuit of their academic, professional, and personal goals.

• Advises students and provides referrals for students with personal, social, or academic concerns that may interfere with satisfactory academic progress.

• Ensures adherence by student organizations to departmental, campus, and College regulations, policies, and procedures. Provides training and guidance for student groups regarding event and activity planning and fiscal management.

• Oversees Esports Club Campus Game Room and supports development of Esports gaming protocols

• Coordinates and monitors all on-campus solicitation and public posting activities.

• Serves on various campus and college-wide committees and advisory boards as assigned.

• Supports all new student orientation activities as well as ongoing student activities.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications

Education/Experience:


A Baccalaureate degree required. A Master's degree and/or 3-5 years experience preferred.

Supervisory Experience:


One or more years of experience as a lead employee, with responsibility for scheduling and assigning work, facilitating teams, training employees, and assisting others with problems, is required.

Language Ability:


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general industry periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from prospective and current students, faculty, staff, business and community representatives, and the general public. Excellent English listening and speaking skills required. Spanish language proficiency is an asset.

Math Ability:


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram/chart, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets, Internet, e-mail system, and PowerPoint software. Must become proficient with current college database software and other college required software within one month of hire.

Certificates and Licenses: None required.


Responsibility for People and Property:

This position is responsible for all student activity fee-sponsored Venice Campus organizations and their respective budgets, Office of Student Life functional spaces and property, student employees and volunteers, community volunteers, contracted services for special events, and SGA events and activities.


Responsibility for Communication:

Internal Contacts:


This position has routine contact with students and all levels of SCF staff.

External Contacts:


This position has frequent contact with other student activities and student government associations, vendors, non-profit agencies and the general public.

Vision requirements include close, color, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
