Description

Job Summary


Assists patrons in use of library services by performing the following duties.

Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:


• Greets and interacts with library patrons ensuring that their needs are met, whether personally or with assistance from student employees and other staff.

• Assists with library access, library computer systems, printer, computer, equipment & related technology and room reservations

• Performs circulation or other related library work, independently or as part of a team.

• Helps patrons in the use of public access catalog, and refers those requiring professional assistance to librarian.

• Interfaces with library management system, which may include maintenance of resource collections, reports, etc.

• Prepares information and statistical data for reports, tracking and special studies.

• Assists with coordinating copier, printer and computer issues.

• Assists with the withdrawal or processing of library materials.

• Places and removes financial library obligations to student records in Banner.

• Participate in library, college or technology training as needed.

• Other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications

Education/Experience:


Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Library experience. Ability to staff the Learning Commons independently & work on projects while librarian is away is required. Good customer service, communication & team/collaboration skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred.

Supervisory Experience:


This position may need to oversee student assistants and coordinate volunteers.

Language Ability:


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Math Ability:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform calculations on standard measures of American currency and weight, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram/chart form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete changes in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and database software. Basic Apple & PC type software and application knowledge is also desirable. Within three months of hire must be able to use college e-mail and other college required software, be able to assist students with connecting to the college Wi-Fi; assist students with scanning and computer printing and be able to use the library management system software.

Responsibility for People and Property:

This position will assist with the distribution of community cards.

This position will assist with maintaining the security of library materials.

This position will assist with security & safety protocols as necessary in emergency situations.


Responsibility for Communication:

Internal Contacts:


This position has contact with staff and students on a daily basis. Additionally there is contact with Fee Payment, Business Services & the Computer Services Help Desk.

External Contacts:


This position has contact with the copy machine vendor and the general public through phone calls or as community patrons.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop and use manual dexterity. The employee is occasionally required to sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds an occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.


The employee is expected to encounter increased patron/student traffic throughout the semester.
