Job Summary


A faculty member teaching in the nursing programs at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota provides instructional quality and student success at the highest level; pursues continuing state-of-the-art knowledge and professional development; commits to the mission of SCF and serves in a variety of other functions in support of the nursing programs, the College, and the community.


Initial Rank and Salary will be determined at the of offer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Contract Load = three 15-week clinical rotations/semester = 33.75 ILH


Overage Load = 2 skills lab assignments/semester = 7.5 ILH


Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:


• Teaches ASN students on an assigned clinical unit meeting SCF's Nursing program rigorous expectations to meet End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes and Program Outcomes.

• Maintains accurate student records for student evaluations, student attendance, and for submission of reports to the nursing program and SCF.

• Embraces a multicultural environment and supports the College's diversity initiatives.

• Promotes and maintains a healthy and safe educational environment, free from harassment and discrimination; maintains professional boundaries with assigned students.

• Develops, maintains, and promotes a positive, respectful, and civil atmosphere among colleagues and members of the college-wide community to advance the SCF mission.

• Demonstrates professional attitude, philosophy, compassion, and commitment that promotes student growth, engagement, and learning.

• Promotes nursing programs and represents the College within the community, with professional nursing associations and/or with local healthcare industry partners.

• Prepares teaching materials to preserve nursing education program integrity and to comply with our accreditation standards.

• Contributes to developing, implementing, and evaluating divisional and departmental program goals.

• Actively participate on at least one of the nursing program committees as assigned by Nursing leadership.

• Participate in professional development activities.

• Attends Faculty/Staff meetings as scheduled.

• Posts ten (10) office hours per week for student interaction and report completed office hours weekly to Nursing leadership. (may complete 1 office hour per clinical rotation for 1 hour after the end of the clinical assignment).

• Maintain clinical compliance expectations and document in the Nursing Database.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications

Education/Experience:


Bachelor of Science degree in nursing required; Master of Science degree in nursing preferred. Recent nursing education clinical teaching experience preferred. Three years of acute care bedside experience within the past four years. Maintain active student status at an accredited Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program and successfully complete 3 MSN credits/semester with a B grade or better.


Other Skills and Abilities:


A record of excellence in professional or teaching career with demonstrated ability to work with colleagues, staff, and community constituents throughout the healthcare industry. Strong written and oral communication and computer skills required.


Supervisory Experience:


Charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical educator experience preferred.


Language Ability:


Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in group settings and to respond to the public, colleagues, and students. Excellent English listening and speaking skills are required. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.


Math Ability:


Must use the medication administration calculation method taught in nursing theory class.Must understand basic statistics used in data collection.


Reasoning Ability:


Ability to exercise a high degree of attention to detail and organization. Excellence in clinical judgment. Capacity to direct students to provide safe nursing care.


Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, the candidate should have basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, e-mail, and multiple patient care documentation systems. Completes the SCF Canvas Online Basic e-Certification course within 1 month of employment. Completes the SCF Canvas Online Advanced e-Certification within 1 year of employment.


Certificates and Licenses:


Requirement: A current valid Florida RN license or be eligible for licensure in Florida or has a Multi-State Compact License.Current BLS-Healthcare Professionals CPR certification.

This position has routine contact with all levels of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota staff.


External Contacts:


This position routinely contacts students and community healthcare agencies. It also frequently contacts SCF faculty, and vendors.
