Superhero-Themed Race Brings Awareness to Children In Foster Care

Bridge a Life (BaL) is hosting the 15th annual Superhero 5K Race and Fun Run on Saturday, February 7th at Nathan Benderson Park. Over 50 local organizations and businesses will join BaL to raise awareness for children in foster care. Currently, there are close to 500 children in out-of-home care (a term used to describe where a child is placed after being removed from his/her home due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment) in Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties.

“Though finding a safe home and stable family environment are important factors for these children, positive community involvement is also a key component,” said Danny Jones, Co-Founder and President of Bridge a Life. “Kids who have been placed into foster care have experienced severe trauma. They need to know that they are not alone, that they have an entire community of people who are on their team.”

This event provides an important, but also fun, platform to elevate foster care awareness. Key agency representation allows those interested in foster care or adoption an opportunity to gather information, ask questions, hear inspiring stories of hope, and find a way to connect with and support this special community of people. Not everyone is able to foster or adopt, but everyone can do something to help support vulnerable children.

The event includes a chip-timed 5K race, as well as a Fun Run, with finisher and top finisher medals, a race shirt, and post-race food. The Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7th followed by the 5K at 9:00 a.m. Expect an upbeat, family-friendly atmosphere with music, giveaways, and a free kiddie zone with inflatables, a rock wall, and giant trampoline.. This event is made possible by Superhero Sponsors Seaward Development, Seaward Homes, and Hargreaves Family Foundation, as well as Titan Sponsor Wal-Mark Contracting Group, LLC. Champion Sponsors include Sarasota Christian Church, Abundant Life Church, Grace Community Church, Dale Thompson, LMHC Psychotherapy, Align Benefit Corp, Paradise Dental, and Plumbing Express, Inc.
