$35,000 Gift and Volunteer Partnership from Church of the Redeemer Boost Meals on Wheels Sarasota’s Mission

Sarasota – December 9, 2025 – Since 1971, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota has delivered more than seven million meals into the community, but none of this could have been possible without the founding churches that started this program. Church of the Redeemer, First United Methodist, and St Martha’s Catholic Church came together to help fulfill a community need: food insecurity amongst vulnerable populations. We are thrilled to announce that Church of the Redeemer is extending its largest grant yet, ensuring the homebound and elderly in our community are receiving adequate nutrition and connection while remaining independent in their home. With $35,000, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota will be able to produce and send out more than 4,000 meals to the clients who qualify for their meals for free or at a reduced rate based on their household income. This accounts for more than 75% of the population Meals on Wheels serves.

Church of the Redeemer is also excited to launch the community engagement portion of this grant. Meals on Wheels will now gain a representative from Church of the Redeemer, who will recruit volunteers from the church to engage with the organization on a deeper level. Reverand Charleston Wilson shares the importance of this new element: "Our partnership with Meals on Wheels of Sarasota allows us to give direct support to the organization, not only financially but through hands-on acts of service," said Fr. Charleston Wilson, rector of Church of the Redeemer. "Our commitment is a wonderful way to share Christ’s love for all people in a tangible way: ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food’ (Matthew 25:35).”

Meals on Wheels of Sarasota’s impact reflects the collective commitment of a caring community dedicated to ensuring that every neighbor is nourished and supported. “We’re honored by the trust and support our community places in us. This investment in our organization strengthens our capacity to continue delivering nutrition and hope to those who rely on us every day,” says Meals on Wheels of Sarasota Executive Director Rhonda Leiberick.
