A Heartfelt Thank You to Veronica Huzzard—And a Warm Welcome to Solimar Ayala

A Heartfelt Thank You to Veronica Huzzard—And a Warm Welcome to Solimar Ayala

After 14 years of inspiring service, Board Chair Veronica Huzzard is passing the torch to Solimar Ayala, a dedicated educator, entrepreneur, and passionate community voice for families in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

Veronica’s leadership has been transformative, guiding Parenting Matters as we grew to reach more than 3,000 individuals and secured vital funding, including a $10,000 Safeco Make More Happen Award in 2024. She’s been a driving force behind our success, lending her heart and hands to events like Girls Night In 4 a Cause and Sangarita Showdown, which raised nearly $60,000 last year. Though stepping down as Chair, Veronica will continue to serve on our Board and event planning committees.

Now, we are thrilled to welcome Solimar Ayala as our new Board Chair. Originally from Carolina, Puerto Rico, Solimar is a STEM and special education teacher at IMG Academy, owner of the small business College Explorer, and a proud mom. Her first connection to Parenting Matters occurred during the pandemic through our Musical Motion program—a space where she and her daughter found support, joy, and a sense of community. Today, Solimar brings that same passion and purpose to her leadership.

“She brings a fresh perspective grounded in lived experience, cultural connection, and deep compassion,” said Katie Becker, Executive Director of Parenting Matters. “Solimar’s journey as both an educator and a parent aligns beautifully with our mission.”

This leadership transition reflects a simple but powerful truth: When families are supported, children thrive.

We are deeply grateful to Veronica and excited for the road ahead with Solimar. Together—with your support—we remain committed to building a future where every child has the chance to succeed.

Thank you for being part of our Parenting Matters family.
