Girls Inc. Welcomes Four New Members to Board of Directors

[Sarasota, FL] — Girls Inc. of Sarasota County is proud to announce the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors, each bringing valuable expertise, leadership, and a shared commitment to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

Joining the Board of Directors are:

Renee Phinney: Renee Phinney is Partner and Vice President of Sales at Palm Printing, with more than 30 years of leadership in Sarasota’s print industry. She is known for building strong partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits, supporting more than 15 organizations in the community. A passionate advocate for women’s leadership, she is a longtime supporter of Girls Inc.. Phinney is recognized for her collaborative approach and commitment to strengthening the local nonprofit sector.

 

Tammy Karp: Tammy Karp is a longtime Sarasota philanthropist and community leader dedicated to advancing opportunities for children, women, and families. She has served on the boards of Temple Beth Sholom, Child Protection Center, and The Out-of-Door Academy, and has chaired numerous community initiatives. Her contributions have been recognized with honors including Advocate of the Year from the Child Protection Center and a 45 Over 45 Transformational Leader award from Sarasota Magazine. A dedicated supporter of Girls Inc. for more than two decades, Karp continues to champion programs that empower the next generation of girls.

 

Marilyn Thompson: Marilyn Thompson is a retired human resources executive with more than 30 years of leadership experience at General Electric, GlaxoSmithKline, and Johnson & Johnson, specializing in leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and diversity and inclusion. Since relocating to Sarasota in 2012, she has been an active community leader, serving as Board Chair of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. She currently serves as Program Chair for the The Links Incorporated (Bradenton/Sarasota Chapter) and is a board member of the International Women’s Forum Suncoast. Thompson is also a founder of the Masala Giving Circle and was named a Woman of Influence 2024 by Sarasota Magazine.

 

Sue Norton: Sue Norton is President and CEO of Norton Impact Partners, and brings more than 30 years of experience across the corporate and nonprofit sectors, including a 27-year career at PepsiCo. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Global Citizenship & Sustainability and led the PepsiCo Foundation, where she oversaw global initiatives. Norton has also served in numerous board leadership roles, including with American Red Cross and Feeding Westchester.


“We are thrilled to welcome these outstanding leaders to the Girls Inc. Board of Directors,” said Angie Stringer, President & CEO. “Their collective experience, passion for our mission, and dedication to creating opportunities for girls will help strengthen our impact across the community.”

As board members, they will support the organization’s strategic vision, governance, resource development, and expansion efforts to ensure more girls have access to life-changing programs and experiences. The current Board of Directors include Judy Love (Chair), Jim Rolfes (Vice Chair), Eric Adams (Treasurer), Mary Pat Radford (Secretary), Jennifer Horiuchi, Danny Watts, Melissa Perrin, Nancy Boxill-Thompson, Caryn Patterson, Daman Kowalski, Renee Phinney, Tammy Karp, and STAR Student, Jacki Bricker.   

Each new board member expressed enthusiasm about joining Girls Inc. and contributing to its mission of empowering girls to grow into healthy, educated, and independent adults. Their leadership will further advance Girls Inc.’s commitment to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold while deepening the organization’s reach and long-term impact in the communities it serves.
