Music Compound announces Summer Masterclass Series in July

Aspiring musical artists, younger and more seasoned, are invited to enjoy exciting new offerings at local music school, Music Compound: the Summer Masterclass Series. Three programs in July will offer guidance and tips from master players and instructors, to inspire and educate music performers and fans alike.

On Thursday, July 17, from 7-9 p.m., 15-year-old piano phenom River Eckert will offer a masterclass on groove, feel and storytelling. Eckert, who has performed with legends including Ivan Neville, Stanton Moore, George Porter Jr., Cornell Williams and many more, has his roots in New Orleans musical traditions. Organizers expect his session to highlight that age is no impediment to career success, and that hard work and being true to your passions can power your progress. This program is for ages 12 and up; cost is $25.

On Saturday, July 19, from 2-4 p.m., Music Compound – in partnership with the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) of Florida – will present a drum clinic focused on rhythm control, relaxation, pro-level technique, and the drumming mindset. The clinic will feature pro drummer Nic Collins (Genesis, Mike & the Mechanics, Better Strangers), the son of world-famous drummer/vocalist Phil Collins;  session artist, Berklee-trained educator and clinician Dave Stark; and internationally-respected composer and pianist/keyboardist Jay Oliver. Special guests will include Autumn Hill Records drummer Rob Silverman and entertainment attorney/music industry consultant Paul Quin. Cost is $30/public, $25/PAS members, and free/Music Compound members.

Finally, on Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m.-noon, Music Compound instructor Jenn McDonald will present a vocal performance workshop focusing on the dos and don’ts of healthy singing, expanding one’s vocal range and navigating trouble spots, decoding your vocal register, bridge-building (identifying your vocal breaks), and culminate with live demonstrations and group discussions. This session is geared toward intermediate/advanced singers with performance experience, ages 10 and up; cost is $25.

“While our individual and group lessons help our members to vastly improve on their chosen instrument(s), there’s nothing like hearing from people with industry experience to help inspire – as well as guide expectations – those who have a passion for music,” said Music Compound owner and President, Jenny Townsend. “We have presented various masterclasses in the past but wanted to focus on these learning opportunities at a time when people might have more time to attend. And our July programming came together just perfectly!”

Space for all three programs is limited and interested participants are encouraged to RSVP soon at musiccompound.com/summer-masterclass-series. Call 941-379-9100 for more information.
